Trump and Obama at war
As reported yesterday, Trump unleashed a Twitter tirade accusing former President Obama of tapping his phones. He also called Obama a McCarthyite as well as a "bad (or sick) guy," whatever that means.
Obama's spokesperson released this statement:
"A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice. As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any US citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false."
It is obviously possible that Obama didn't order it, but a court did in response to a filing by the FBI or the Justice department. The statement is silent on these possibilities.
Republicans also reacted to this bizarre statement. Leading Republican Lindsay Graham said that if it was true that Obama tapped Trump's phone that would be illegal and would need to be investigated. If it was false, then Trump would have committed an egregious crime and would need to be investigated. In either case, a Congressional investigation appeared likely.
