The 29-year-old winger has been jailed for one year after admitting to two separate counts of fraud with each carrying a six-month sentence.

Former Manchester United flop Angel Di Maria, who left Old Trafford for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in 2015, was also fined £1.76m for the felony he committed while playing for Real Madrid in Spain between 2010 and 2014.

Di Maria was found guilty of defrauding the Spanish government a sum of £1.14m during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, the Argentine is unlikely to spend any time behind bars.

In Spain, sentences of under two-years are often suspended if the convicted person has no previous criminal record.

Di Maria had previously made a deal with the.authorities to avoid a trial at the Spanish Supreme Court.
